Welding a lap joint with the lincoln idealarc 250
Filed Under Miller and Lincoln MIG and TIG Welders Videos |
I welded this lap joint with my lincoln idealarc this time wired correctly, I think I was using AC at around 100 amps, 6013 rod, pictures at end, second picture I think I got less penetration, these welds are being done to my latest project a ghetto shifter cart, its not gonna look very good, but it will be built well and will be very fast, I am puttin an air cooled 175 cc engine (2 stroke) in it, when completed a video will be posted, I expect to have it completed in under 2 weeks, we will see how it goes, stay tuned!!

thanks for the tips man
6011 is a pipe rod and used for nasty coditions like rusty or painted metal, and its also a fast freeze rod and so is 6010, 6013 is a nice rod for light conditons but the all around best rods are 7014 18 and 24.
use 6010,6011 for deep penitration and 7018,7024 for stromer better looking welds never use 6013 its cheap crap
sounds good man thatas a fuckin awesome deal jump on it right away!!!
I am going to look at a Lincoln Ranger 8 tomorrow. It is an 8K generator with 4-110 and 1-220 AC outlets. It is also a 200Amp AC/DC welder that can do Stick, Mig and light Tig welding. I can add a plasma cutter attachment to it. The guy is asking $1300 for it.
My house only has 100Amp service so I need a generator/welder. The original owner used it for welding aluminum fence.

6013 has very little spatter its nice to weld with.
ya that would be some cool footage, I might do some welding tonight or tomorow, I will post videos of it, your info was very helpful, thanks a lot.
Something I used to underestimate myself, and lots of people still do is joint matching and cleanliness depending on the steel thickness a loose fit can be your worst enemy, along with painted, or rusted steel. Use a flap disk and clean the area at least 1 inch to each side of the joints to be made.
MUCH better keep practicing. If I get the chance I’ll go in some weekend and video some of my welds, not to say that I’m an excellent welder, it’ll just let you see some of my personal techniques. That is, If i get the chance, the plant is laying a lot of people off, so it’s got people on their toes, people start asking questions and acting funny now when they see my video camera.
